Hey Reader,
The best meme I saw for a Black Friday hack π:
Okay for real - I think indulging on Black Friday deals makes sense when it aligns with pre-planned purchases.
I received a sample bottle of a hair oil a few weeks ago, and I absolutely loved it.
I had planned to purchase the full bottle when the sample dried up, so when I saw the brand had a 25% online discount during Black Friday, of course I snagged it.
I also picked up some silk pillow cases I had been eyeing for a while.
As someone who used to be obsessed with getting things on "sale", I know how easy it is to get caught up in a "good deal".
Over the years, I've moved a lotβ¦I can count on two hands the amount of times I've moved cross-country.
And with each move, I found myself sifting through all my belongings, questioning whether it deserved a place in my moving boxes π¦ or if it should be tossed or donated.
Most of the time, I would ask, "WHY THE HELL DID I BUY THIS CRAP IN THE FIRST PLACE!" π
I realized all this stuff I had accumulated over the years were driven by moments of "boredom" and more often, the allure of a perceived "good deal", only to be used a few times and then shoved to a closet or completely forgotten about.
The phrase "Yesterday's good deal is today's clutter", never rang so true but when moving.
Today, I can confidently say, I hate having a lot of "stuff".
It drives me crazy.
I am a proud minimalist.
I started this mindset and behavior shift in 2019, and each year, I am able to see how having less stuff continues to improve the quality of my life.
I really loved the documentary "Minimalism: A Documentary About the Important Things".
This exploration into intentional living has regularly influenced the practice of resisting the allure of "sales", purging my things regularly that don't serve purpose, and investing in a few high quality pieces each year that I absolutely love and will last me a long time.
I wrote about a similar topic a few months ago regarding the era of de-influencing and shared some other strategies and tips to reduce a consumerist mindset.

This week, we spoke with Megha Rao, founder of fashion brand holiCHIC by Megha.
One of the things I loved about this conversation is how persistent she's been. She started building the business in 2014 and was one of the early players in the Indo-Western fashion market. They reached a new level success when they debuted at NYFW in 2021!
Managing a corporate career for 15 years while building holiCHIC on the side, Megha eventually made the transition to working on her brand full time.
Tune in to hear us discuss her entrepreneurial journey, how the pandemic completely transformed her business, and what's kept her inspired to continue to grow and reinvent all these years.

Hey Reader, Happy Wednesday and welcome back to an issue of The Brown Girl Podcast newsletter! It's been a long time, 8 months exactly, since I last drafted an email newsletter. Mentally I'm here and ready to dive back into creative outlets (but really, I'm sitting in my room in a hoodie from 15 years ago, drinking coffee, and wondering how it's already fallπ). One of the things I've learned to appreciate in my 30s is slowing down; going at a pace that feels right for me based on my current...
Hey Reader, Greetings from Bogota, Colombia. π¨π΄ I'm on vacation this week! It's my first true vacation unplugging (mostly π¬) in a long time. BTW this newsletter was written on the flight, with a few edits in between at a coffee shop, and scheduled for release. While the last 12 months have included a lot of traveling, they've mostly been for work, weddings, family functions, or other obligatory commitments that have made trips feel more fleeting and rushed in nature, so I'm really looking...
Hey Reader, WELCOMEβοΈ If you're new to this newsletter, thank you for being here. Every two weeks, I send an email rounding up tips, stories, and resources on improving mindset, money, productivity, or other lifestyle matters. I often draw inspiration for these newsletters from real life conversations or events. WEEKLY MUSINGS πΊ This past Sunday, I completed my 3rd half marathon. The first time I ran a half was in 2018, then 2023, and now 2024. And each time, my overall pace has gotten worse!...
