When to Quit

Hey Reader,

How often do we hear that "persistence" is key?

But sometimes knowing when to quit is just as important.

That is, recognizing when to pivot, change course, or gracefully exit a situation can hold as much weight in our journey as learning to persevere.

For a few of years, I dabbled with a side hustle in the health and nutrition coaching space, working directly with clients to guide them in their health and weight loss journeys.

I had always been passionate about healthy living, and loved sharing with others; it seemed like a natural fit.

So during the pandemic, I got all my necessary certifications to take on clients in a professional capacity.

At first, it was fun, and I really enjoyed it. But then… I slowly started to… hate it…

Okay, hate is a strong word, but I certainly wasn’t loving it, and it started to feel fatiguing.

Like it was out of alignment to my purpose.

I wrestled with the idea of "I'm not a quitter" and I don't want people to think I'm a "quitter" so I. MUST. KEEP. GOING.

Then one day, I decided to finally act on what my gut was telling me, and I pulled the plug.

Looking back, I'm so thankful I did.

By closing that door, I freed up mental and physical energy, allowing me to embrace fresh opportunities and invest my time in new projects that served me in ways that felt more aligned.

When you close one door, you create space to open a new one.

I don't see that time spent coaching as wasted efforts. At the time, it was what I wanted, and needed to do.

I learned so many skills and lessons during that phase of my life, all of which proved to be relevant for my next chapter.

Life is like a book; every season is a chapter.

And each chapter builds from the last.

So today, let this email serve as a reminder that it's okay to change your mind, or to chart a new course.

Just because you decide something today, doesn’t mean you have to be tied to it forever.

We always have time to rewrite our stories.

What's something you've quit that you're so glad you did? You can respond directly to this email.

Hey Reader, Happy Wednesday and welcome back to an issue of The Brown Girl Podcast newsletter! It's been a long time, 8 months exactly, since I last drafted an email newsletter. Mentally I'm here and ready to dive back into creative outlets (but really, I'm sitting in my room in a hoodie from 15 years ago, drinking coffee, and wondering how it's already fall🍁). One of the things I've learned to appreciate in my 30s is slowing down; going at a pace that feels right for me based on my current...

Hey Reader, Greetings from Bogota, Colombia. 🇨🇴 I'm on vacation this week! It's my first true vacation unplugging (mostly 😬) in a long time. BTW this newsletter was written on the flight, with a few edits in between at a coffee shop, and scheduled for release. While the last 12 months have included a lot of traveling, they've mostly been for work, weddings, family functions, or other obligatory commitments that have made trips feel more fleeting and rushed in nature, so I'm really looking...
