Life scripts + dating icks

Hey Reader,

WELCOME ⭐️

If you're new to this newsletter, thank you for being here.

Every two weeks, I send an email rounding up tips, stories, and resources on improving mindset, money, productivity, or other lifestyle matters.

I often draw inspiration for these newsletters from real life conversations.

WEEKLY MUSINGS 🌺

Several years ago, I had a chat with someone about traveling 🌍.

She had a list of international destinations to visit one day.

But was holding off on seeing the world until she got married.

To me, that seemed bizarre. 🤯

It felt like she was setting her life's adventures on standby, holding out for some distant, unknown future.

Now almost a decade later - no husband and no travels.

"The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately." - Seneca

It's a poignant reminder, isn't it?

We often lay out our lives with the precision of a roadmap, only to have life/God/the universe, write it's own script.

I was once a loyalist to strict planning for myself. I loved laying out roadmaps and thought by this age I want to accomplish X and do this by Y.

But over the years, I've learned to appreciate the art of flexibility—the skill of embracing what's in front of me and recalibrating as needed.

This isn't about not setting out ambitious goals or dreams.

It's about being adaptable in our pursuit, willing to course-correct when needed, and be open to the myriad of paths that can lead us to various destinations.

After all, the best stories are often the ones we never saw coming.

ON THE PODCAST 🎙️

This week, we're keeping it light with my guest Sonya Patel, host of the Your Big Sis podcast.

I had so much fun recording this episode!

We talk all things "Dating Icks"; you know those things that immediately turn you off about someone.

Tune in as we discuss everything from ambition mismatches, vaping, confidence, table manners, and more. We share our candid thoughts and dating stories along the way.

Listen to episode 52 of The Brown Girl Podcast on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, or choose another listening platform here.

ON MY SCREEN 📺

If you're looking for a new series to watch, I'm really loving Safe, a British crime drama on Netflix. It's a mystery series with lots of twists and turns and a blend of scandal, tragedy, and romance.

Hey Reader, Happy Wednesday and welcome back to an issue of The Brown Girl Podcast newsletter! It's been a long time, 8 months exactly, since I last drafted an email newsletter. Mentally I'm here and ready to dive back into creative outlets (but really, I'm sitting in my room in a hoodie from 15 years ago, drinking coffee, and wondering how it's already fall🍁). One of the things I've learned to appreciate in my 30s is slowing down; going at a pace that feels right for me based on my current...

Hey Reader, Greetings from Bogota, Colombia. 🇨🇴 I'm on vacation this week! It's my first true vacation unplugging (mostly 😬) in a long time. BTW this newsletter was written on the flight, with a few edits in between at a coffee shop, and scheduled for release. While the last 12 months have included a lot of traveling, they've mostly been for work, weddings, family functions, or other obligatory commitments that have made trips feel more fleeting and rushed in nature, so I'm really looking...

The first time I ran a half was in 2018, then 2023, and now 2024. And each time, my overall pace has gotten worse!...
